Fisherman turned business owner

Jeff Young is a skilled fisherman, youth sports coach, and loving grandfather, but he wasn't a businessman. So when he decided to purchase Sukit, a fishing bait and lure brand, he was a bit uncertain.


He already loved Sukit; he used their baits and lures to win competitions and knew other people would love them as well. But what he was really passionate about was seeing the younger generations take up fishing. Was there a way to combine his passion with the Sukit brand?


Jeff needed more than an online store. He needed a business and branding strategy that helped him reach his goals. He needed a way for people to find the Sukit brand outside of the Facebook page. The standard website designer wasn't going to cut it. He needed a framework, so he worked with Jenn Marie.

Deliverable:

Easy-to-use online store designed for a market that typically does not shop online, and an online framework for launching an exclusive program for youth fishing.


Process:

Since Jeff planned to maintain his online store himself, we chose the Wix platform because of its ease of use. Jeff already maintained a large Facebook page and was comfortable with the platform.


Jeff had a logo. However, images were a problem. He didn't have a budget for professional product images, so, we edited pictures taken by his cell phone. His promotional video was also self-shot and professionally edited. For the kid's pro staff, we crowdsourced and edited images from customers on his Facebook page.


We added the content, created a sign-up automation for the kid's pro staff, and brainstormed a tagline. We SEO optimized the site for his name, the brand, and the kid's pro staff. Jeff was then trained on the Wix e-commerce platform, advised on shipping options, and participated in a few test runs before launching the site.


Results:


In its first month, Sukit Baits processed numerous orders and kids pro staff signups. It continues its mission of keeping the thrill of fishing alive.
